I nick my wrist
a drop of blood at finger tips
Scarlet gems full of life
runs down fingers
then falls aside
A wash of pain
a dash of pleasure
in the end they are the same
pain of the soul
brought to life
no longer phantoms of the mind
released by droplets
one by one
pain grows sharper
in that wrist
yet the knife of betrayal
is sharper still
can't let it go
or turn aside
trapped in the contents kept inside
life's elixir runs down my arm
what once was sweet now is gone
bitter is betrayal's poison
slowly spreading through the veins
as icy fire racks the brain
the mind goes numb
the body shuts down
the countless questions vanish
into thin air
the eyes become blind
to everything both far and near
tears rain down stony cheeks
full of the salt of deceit
tears and screams will not replace
the disgusted look on your face
a friendship once strong
now stands shattered
impossible to put back together
the cuts are deep
yet time shall see if it shall mend
the shards from the friendship are razor sharp
I take one imbedded deep inside my heart
and nick my wrist again
and watch the blood run in rivulets
down my arm

Author's Comments

I wrote this when i was going through a hard time. I found out that a friendship i thought was going well was actually not doing well at all, and this is the result. It has nothing to do with suicide, and i don't cut my wrists in real life either, but for a while, it seemed like it'd be easier to bring the pain into reality. I wrote this actually during my physics final, when i just couldn't take the test and this was all i could focus on.
